On April 27, 2017 at 1140 hours, the Burbank Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Mariposa Avenue. Responding units reported a large column of black smoke. Upon arrival, units found a small single story residential structure with heavy smoke and fire emanating from the rear. In addition to the first priority of life safety, there was the concern of blowing embers igniting adjacent structures due to the 20 mph winds. Based on these conditions, Battalion Chief 1 ordered additional resources to be dispatched. Also, high voltage lines were on fire, directly over where the units were working. An immediate call was issued to Burbank Water and Power (BWP), who quickly responded as some crews were working in the area.

Units fully extinguished the fire, with a knockdown reported at 1215 hours. A total of 30 firefighters and command personnel worked at the incident. There was great support from both BWP and Burbank Police Department. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The cause and origin of the fire are currently under investigation.
